On May 26, 2026, the Department of the History of Philosophy hosted the First Interdepartmental Chess Tournament of the Faculty of Philosophy, in which eight faculty members and students from our faculty participated. The event was organized by the Department of History of Philosophy, the Chess Club of Ivan Franko Lviv National University, and the Student Trade Union. The organizing committee was chaired by Prof. Andrii Synytsia, a professor of the Department of History of Philosophy, and the chief judge of the competition was the representative of the Chess Club Illia Plavutskyi, who ensured impartial judging according to the principles of fair play and FIDE rules, which ultimately allowed determining the winner in an intense intellectual struggle. In total, there were five rounds according to the Swiss system, time control 7 min + 5 s, drawing lots and calculating rating points using a computer program.

The tournament was quite dynamic, so two hours of intense struggle passed very quickly. The winner of the competition was undoubtedly Radomyr Mokryk, an associate professor of the Department of Theory and History of Culture, and at the same time a doctoral student of the Department of History of Philosophy. The second place was won by a graduate student of the Department of Philosophy, Nazarii Fylyk. The third place in additional indicators was taken by a master’s student of the educational program “Philosophy” Anton Pohorilyi, who also represented the Department of Philosophy. The results of all players turned out to be quite close, which indicates the potential of each to win next time.
The organizers of the tournament thank everyone who joined in the participation in the tournament, and in these May days of the All-Ukrainian Festival of Science at the University combined the spirit of intellectual struggle behind the chessboard with friendly conversations on philosophical topics.
