Course description

The course “Introduction to the specialty” is a normative academic discipline
in the cycle of professional and practical training of students for the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education
of the Faculty of Philosophy. The discipline is taught in the 1st semester of the 1st year in the amount of 3 credits (according to
European Credit Transfer System ECTS).

The course “Introduction to the specialty” provides a general and comprehensive understanding of the areas of interest of political science, as well as forms knowledge of the basic concepts and categories of political science. The course is designed to provide participants with basic knowledge of political science, to show the areas of manifestation of politics and options for scientific understanding of this issue. The course also provides an opportunity to form a general idea of both the specialty and the potential areas of self-expression of future political scientists.

The aim of the course “Introduction to the specialty” is to form the basis of professional knowledge of politics, political institutions and processes in the modern world; to master the skills of working with political science sources and to acquire knowledge of the use of basic political science methods and techniques; to teach students to analyze and summarize information on contemporary problems of political development.
