Course description

This course ensures the personal and professional development of bachelor students and is aimed at acquiring the necessary theoretical, methodological, and methodological knowledge, as well as practical skills for their application in analytical, organizational, and research work within the fields of political science, international relations, and foreign policy activities.

The course involves the study and analysis of key approaches to defining national security, international security, and global security. This theoretical foundation enables political science students to master the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the course, utilize relevant literature and reference materials, identify the main theoretical and methodological approaches, evaluate contemporary political practice, determine the conditions and causes of various political processes, understand their particularities, and assess opportunities for managing them. The course also aims to identify qualitative changes in the process of transformation of Ukraine’s political regime.

The objective of the elective course “National and International Security” is to develop students’ understanding of the systemic nature of national and international security, principles of their formation, and awareness of the interconnections between national, regional, and international security. The course establishes a theoretical and methodological foundation for acquiring skills in analyzing the peculiarities of ensuring national and international security in the context of globalization. It involves studying the development process of national and international security systems and identifying the main prerequisites for effective interaction between countries in peacefully resolving disputes and disagreements in international relations.

Students will also gain an understanding of the nature of threats to national and international security and acquire skills for developing strategies to minimize their impact on the development of national and international relations. The course investigates the normative-legal basis of international security in the context of its correlation with current Ukrainian legislation. It also covers institutional frameworks for ensuring national and international security and the functions of key institutions in this field.

Finally, the course develops students’ abilities to analyze processes related to international security provision and assess their consequences for individual countries, regional associations, and the world.
