Course description

“History of Political Doctrines (Part IV)” is a normative discipline in the cycle of professional and practical training of students for the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education at the Faculty of Philosophy. The discipline is taught in the 4th semester of the 2nd year in the amount of 3 credits (according to the European Credit Transfer System ECTS).

This course is one of the main disciplines of the specialization. This discipline reveals the most important trends in the development of political thought in the West in the twentieth century. In the process of mastering the discipline, students must study the basic political theories, considering them as a form of studying politics. At the same time, the study of political theories is carried out not only through textbooks, but primarily through “immersion” in original texts. Students should learn to see the alternative political views, concepts and theories. By comparing different theoretical views, it is necessary to distinguish between existing methodological approaches in political research. In this way, students will be able to engage in discussions that are taking place today between representatives of different traditions of political thought. The study of this discipline involves a student’s creative attitude to finding answers to questions on the most pressing problems of political theory.
