Course description

The discipline “History of Political Doctrines (Part I)” is a normative discipline that is studied by first-year bachelor’s students majoring in 052 “Political Science”. The course is designed for 120 hours and is studied in the first semester. The structure of the course hours includes the following components: lectures – 32 hours; seminars – 32 hours, independent assignments – 56 hours.

The discipline “History of Political Thought (Part I)” is devoted to the study of world political thought in the states of the Ancient East, in the period of Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The course consists of three content modules.

Objectives:

  • to study and analyze the process of historical transformation of political doctrines in the ancient world, in the period of Antiquity and the Middle Ages;
  • to form in students a systematic understanding of the development of world political thought as a holistic process of conceptual understanding of theoretical problems of politics and the sphere of state-building;
  • to summarize the experience of many generations of famous thinkers, philosophers, political figures in solving problematic issues related to the study of the foundations of policy-making, the origin of the nature and essence of the state and law, the principles of relations between the individual and the state;
  • to familiarize students with the main stages of development of political thought, taking into account the problematic and theoretical nature of the course, starting with the political doctrines of the Ancient East and ending with the concepts of the Middle Ages;
  • to form students’ understanding of the correlation between the theoretical provisions of political science and real political institutions.
