Course description
The discipline “Ethnopolitology” is an elective course that is studied by third-year bachelor’s students majoring in 052 “Political Science”. The course is designed for 105 hours and is studied in the sixth semester. The structure of the course hours includes the following components: lectures – 32 hours; seminars – 32 hours, independent assignments – 41 hours.
The discipline “Ethnopolitology” aims to study the trends in the development of the ethnopolitical sphere of human existence; to clarify the patterns of relations between ethnic and national communities (ethnicities, nations, ethnic and national groups) among themselves and with the state; to familiarize with the ways and methods of nation-state building, the foundations and principles of democratic ethnic and national policy. The course consists of one content module.
The purpose of teaching the discipline “Ethnopolitology” is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for an in-depth understanding of the relationship between ethnicities and politics. In particular, through mastering the methods and approaches of ethnopolitical science in order to conduct an objective analysis of world ethnopolitical thought, modern theories of ethnicity and nation, as well as the patterns of ethnopolitical processes, which is a necessary component of forming the directions and methods of their own political activity.
The main objectives of the discipline “Ethnopolitology” are to study modern interpretations of such concepts as ethnicity, nation and nationalism. The study also focuses on the relationship between ethnicity and group conflicts, as well as the causes of their emergence and the possibilities of regulation. The course includes an examination of the ethnopolitical situation in Ukraine and a practical analysis of contemporary Ukrainian ethnopolitics.
